    The picturesque Gokyo valley lies towards the west of the famous Khumbu region of the Himalaya and is a part of Sagarmatha National Park. The serene valley boasts extensive pastures for yaks to graze during summer and the pristine turquoise lakes are simply breathtaking. Gokyo can be visited after trekking up to Everest Base Camp or by trekking directly to Gokyo. One can also charter a helicopter and fly there.

     Gokyo valley consists of small villages nestled in the Himalaya where most of the houses are tea- houses catering to the trekkers with necessary services. Popular for its views, one of the eight-thousanders, Cho Oyu is seen towards the north from Gokyo along with the spectacular panoramic view of other eight- thousanders extending from Everest, Lhotse all the way to Makalu. There are many great views all around the valley, but one can venture up to the summit of Gokyo Ri situated at an altitude of 5,357 m to get an all-round spectacular view of the peaks and the pristine Gokyo lakes. The holy Gokyo lakes are of religious significance to the Hindus and Buddhists. These lakes also provide refuge to the migratory birds on their trans- Himalayan migration, twice annually. Apart from this, Gokyo is also renowned for being the world’s highest altitude ice skating range and a part of Ramsar sites.

Gokyo - Cho la Pass Trek details

Gokyo- Cho La Pass Trek offers the real adventure in the core of the Everest Himalayas. It connects the breathtaking Gokyo valley and the Gokyo Ri to the classical Everest base camp. Adventure loving trekkers find this trekking highly suitable to have an exhilarating experience with the blessing of the high snowy peaks of the Khumbu and awesome surroundings.

The trek begins from Lukla that you gradually trek to the Sherpa land of Namche Bazaar. From Namche, the trail leads you to the Gokyo valley with a giant glacial Gokyo Lake. Trekkers can get engaged with the rare sights of alpine lakes, Rivers, Glaciers- the largest in the Nepal Himalayas, wonderful trails, floras-faunas, etc. within a certain geographical boundary. Hike to Gokyo Ri is another awesome side trip that is sparkle to explore the Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu and the surrounding range. Ngozumba glacier spreads on its full length. Cho La Pass lies as the challenge on the route to Everest base camp. It increases the fun of adventure in Khumbu region.  Completing the Everest base camp trek via the Cho La Pass, you trek down to Lukla through the cultural heartland of the Sherpa people and abundant heritages. Outline Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival at Kathmandu.

Day 02 : Sightseeing (shopping) day.

Day 03 : Flight to Lukla (2840 meters) and 3 hours trek to Phakding (2610 meters). 35 min fly/3 hrs walk

Day 04 : Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters). 5-6 hrs

Day 05 : Rest day and visit Khumjung valley and come down to Namche.

Day 06 : Trek to Luza (4360m) 6-7 hrs

Day 07 : Trek to Gokyo (4790m) 5-6 hrs

Day 08 : Rest Day in Gokyo and in these days, early morning climb up to Gokyo RI (5357m) and return down to Gokyo.

Day 09 : Trek to Dragnag (4700m) 3-4 hrs

Day 10 : Trek to Cho La pass (5368m) and down to Dzonglha (4830m) 8-9 hrs

Day 11 : Trek to Dingboche (4410m) 6-7 hrs

Day 12 : Trek to Kyanjingma (3550m) 6-7 hrs

Day 13 : Trek to Phakding 6-7 hrs

Day 14 : Trek to Lukla 3-4 hrs

Day 15 : Fly Back to Kathmandu.

Day 16 : Rest (Shopping Day in Kathmandu).

Detail Itinerary

Day 01Arrival at Kathmandu. Namaste and welcome to Nepal. Alpine Excursion Treks and expedition's representative welcome you warmly at the Tribhuwan International Airport and transfer to the hotel. You take rest and enjoy your meal in the evening. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02Sightseeing (shopping) day. After the breakfast, you set out for the sightseeing trip in the Kathmandu valley. Our expert tour guide shows you the UNESCO world heritage sites, which include Pashupatinath (the Hindu temple), Boudhanath (Buddhist stupa), Swayambhunath (Buddhist stupa and temple). Then, return back to the hotel. If you have to shopping, you have time to do. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 03Flight to Lukla (2840 meters) and 3 hours trek to Phakding (2610 meters). 35 min fly/3 hrs walk We fly to Lukla early in the morning with the breathtaking views of the Everest Himalayan chain. In Lukla, we meet our further crew (if you required) and arranging the things, we proceed to Phakding, walking above the Dudh Koshi River and enjoying the valley views, potato fields and the forest. Overnight at lodge.

Day 04Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 meters). 5-6 hrs Today, we walk almost up and up to the Sherpa hub, known as Namche Bazaar. First we cross few suspension bridges and enter to the Sagarmatha National Park. The gradual uphill walk is exciting with the greenery views of the forest and we get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest. Reach to Namche Bazaar and take a rest. Overnight at lodge.

Day 05Rest day and visit Khumjung valley and come down to Namche. As we are climbing to the alpine region, we need acclimatization to fit in the thin air region. After breakfast, we walk around Khumjung and Khunde. On your interest, we can walk up to the Everest View Hotel. Then we come back to Namche Bazaar. Overnight at lodge.

Day 06Trek to Luza (4360m) 6-7 hrs From Namche Bazaar, we gradually ascend to Dole via Mong, Phortse Thanga Tangwa Kharka. It is almost all the way uphill trail and the views become more fabulous. The alpine meadow begins and we pass the dense woods on the way. On the way, we pass the birthplace of Lama Sange Dorje. The walking becomes gradual as we are getting into the high altitude. From Dole, we reach to Kele, Labharma and finally Luza. Overnight at lodge.

Day 07Trek to Gokyo (4790m) 5-6 hrs After breakfast, we pass Machhermo and we reach to Phangga. It is located just close to the avalanche area that took place in 1995. Then the real wonder and an exciting excursion to the stunning Gokyo valley begins. We pass two Lakes, named Longpongo Tsho and Taujung Tsho and finally reach to the Gokyo valley, which is beautifully situated beside the Gokyo Lake, which is known as the third lake. The Janai Purnima fair is held beside the Lake every year. Overnight at lodge.

Day 08Rest Day in Gokyo and in these days, early morning climb up to Gokyo RI (5357m) and return down to Gokyo. Early morning, we begin to hike towards the Gokyo Ri. It is an exciting viewpoint of the Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and the vicinity peaks. The Ngozumba glacier adds more attraction on the trek, which is the longest glacier in the Khumbu region. We can enjoy climbing the Gokyo Peak and gradually retrace to the Gokyo valley and take a rest. Overnight at lodge.

Day 09Trek to Dragnag (4700m) 3-4 hrs We leave the Gokyo valley and head towards Dragnag after the breakfast. Enjoying the views of Makalu, Lhotse, Kusum Kanguru and the neighboring peaks, we head continually. We are on our next mission that is crossing the Cho La Pass, before that we take a rest at Dragnag. Overnight at lodge.

Day 10Trek to Cho La pass (5368m) and down to Dzonglha (4830m) 8-9 hrs Before the sun rises, we begin our grand excursion towards the Cho La Pass. It is challenging enough to deal with. The top of Cho La 5368 meters is a wonderful viewpoint of the peaks of the Khumbu region, including Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Lobuche peak and others. Crossing the Cho La Pass becomes highly challenging in winter due to the high snow fall. However, even in the normal season, there can be snow and the route becomes slippery and special attention should be paid along with using some basic climbing equipments. Then we climb down gradually to Dzongla. Overnight at lodge.

Day 11Trek to Dingboche (4410m) 6-7 hrs From Dzongla, we begin to trek down after the breakfast. We reach to Thukla and descend further via Palrung Kharka. The steep down trail leads us to Dusa that continually leads us down. Nearly, reaching Dingbuche, we walk through the gradual uphill trail. Overnight at lodge.

Day 12Trek to Kyanjingma (3550m) 6-7 hrs From Dingbuche, we begin to trek down following the Imja Khola, we reach to Orsho, Somare and continue to trek down. We pass Deboche and through the stone steps, we reach to Tengbuche, other widely renowned cultural spots of the Tibetan Buddhists. This is richly loaded by the spirituality. Via Phunki Tenga, we gradually descend to Khyangjuma. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 13Trek to Phakding 6-7 hrs Almost, the trail is just downhill. We begin to trek down after breakfast from Kyangjuma, pass the Namche Bazaar and finally, check out from the Sagarmatha National Park check point. Crossing various steel bridges, we finally reach to Phakding. Overnight at lodge.

Day 14Trek to Lukla 3-4 hrs We trek back to Lukla from Phakding. It’s a gentle walk through the easy trail. The view of the Dudh Koshi valley can be seen stunning. Arriving at Lukla, we bid farewell to the porters (if we have) and have a memorable evening. Overnight at lodge.

Day 15Fly Back to Kathmandu. Today, we fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu enjoying the Everest region snow covered peaks. From airport, you will be transferred to hotel. Then you have a whole day to shower and rest. Overnight at lodge.

Day 16Rest (Shopping Day in Kathmandu). After the tiresome excursion, today you have your own day. It may be valuable to do shopping and buy souvenirs for your family members and your friends. Then you can have a relax time. Overnight at lodge.

Day 17Final Departure day The last day of the trip, the representative of the Alpine Excursion Treks and Expedition drops you to the airport. Thank you for joining us for your memorable trip. See you again.
