Located at the north of the Annapurna region of Nepal, Mustang region is a hidden landscape that is extremely unique and picturesque. Upper Mustang is more enchanting with its diverse sceneries and outstanding geographical feature. Mustang trekking is unique for the trekkers to pass through the Tibetan Buddhism influenced villages with the traditional standard of living.
Walking through the Kaligandaki valley, you pass the deepest gorge of the world during the Mustang trek. The landscape is barren with treeless geography. The Tibetan Buddhist nobility is dominated throughout the trail of Upper Mustang. The dwellers of Mustang live in oasis villages in reddish-brown rock deserts, clashing a steady rancid wind and farm grains and potatoes in protected plots of land. This hard toil of daily existence in the elevated Himalayas is interjected by periods of lively feasts and festivals marked by drinking, dancing and merry-making. You can visit various caves, monasteries and stone walled town of Lomanthang. Ranchong Cave, the oldest monastery of Ghiling, Chhyoshar cave and Namgyal monastery can be explored during this trek. Muila pass (4170m) and Morongla pass (4230m) is the high passes that you cross to get the success of the Upper Mustang trek through the dusty and moderate trail. If you trek in May, you have an opportunity to witness the Tiji festival. While retracing, taking a side trip to the Muktinath temple will help to understand the Hindu and Buddhist mixed pilgrimage destination.
